Pet Owners Finding Medical Costs Crippling
A report by Sainbury’s has brought the plight of the UK’s pet population to the attention of the masses with news that over 1.5 million pets were put down last year because owners could not afford the treatment required. The report has disturbed many but when you consider that the cost of veterinary treatment increased by 12% last year alone it is easy to see why so many pet owners are being forced into taking such drastic action.
The survey also found that a further 2.5 million pet owners have had to call time on their pet insurance cover because of cash restraints and the ever increasing cost of premiums. However, all is not lost with a number of pet insurance companies coming to the rescue with specialist pet insurance policies for specific occasions when money may not be available. But do you really need pet insurance?
The cost of medical treatment for your pet can be astronomical and it is only when required that you will actually come face to face with that cost. Cancelling (or not even contemplating) pet insurance is a false economy as the costs far out weigh the premiums involved. Wouldn’t you want to sleep sound at night knowing your pet was catered for?
